International Tournament 2012 (Saturday May 26 and Sunday May 27)

Welcome on the website of V.V. Kamerik and in particular on the page of our International
Whitsun Tournament for our oldest youth team in the age of 16 to 18 years, in The Netherlands the so-called A-juniors. In 2012 we organize the 28th version of our International Football Tournament.

On this page we will provide you with information regarding the tournament, especially as we do not know by which means you have reached our club. We think this page will answer most of your questions.

The International Whitsun Tournament within our club is a tradition for 27 years and was
originated as a farewell present from our youth department to the oldest youth which were leaving to the senior teams. Over the past 26 years we have had teams competing from Belgium, Germany, France, England and Luxembourg. Since the introduction of a new committee some years ago the biggest change was the extension from 6 participating teams to 10 teams. It’s our goal to get 5 teams from abroad and 5 from The Netherlands. 

In 2011 these 10 teams participated:

- v.v. Kamerik from Kamerik, Holland
- De Zouaven from Grootenbroek, Nederland,
- RKDSV from Diessen, Holland
- Legmeervogels from Uithoorn, Holland
- VVS'46 from Spanbroek, Holland
- Zeelandia MIddelburg from Middelburg, Holland 
- SG Schwagstorf/Ostercappeln from Ostercappeln, Germany
- SF Niederwenigern from Hattingen, Germany (tournament winner)
- SC Steele 03/20 from Essen, Germany



Kamerik is a small county village and with almost 4000 inhabitants. It is situated approximately 20 kilometres westwards from Utrecht and 30 kilometres southwards from Amsterdam. We do share our complex with the korfball club SDO and with the local tennisclub LTC Kamerik. Currently we do have 6 senior teams and 13 youth teams competing on different levels.
 
The International Whitsun Tournament will be played on Saturday May 26 and Sunday May 27, 2012. At our football ground we will install 2 big tents with a compartiment for each individual team. The participating people have to make sure they have a sleeping bag, a thin mattress and a pillow of their own. We will receive the participating teams on Friday evening May 25 and we do anticipate their leaving after breakfast of Monday May 28. Our own youth team will sleep as your host at our complex as well. All the meals are taken care of starting with a breakfast on Saturday and ending with a breakfast on Monday. Again the players from our club will eat with their guests as well.

The costs for the whole weekend are 94 Euro per person (same as last year) which includes your stay in a tent compartiment and all the meals (3 * breakfast, 2 * lunch and 2 * diner). We would like you to arrive with at least 15 players and 2 adult coaches as supervisors for the team are required. You really need these 15 players as 7 matches in 2 days is quite a lot.

Based on 10 participating teams we will divide the teams in 2 groups on Saturday. Each group will contain teams from The Netherlands and other nationalities. All the teams will play 4 matches from 30 minutes each on Saturday. On Sunday we will play the cross-finals and the matches for the overall standing. Depending on Saturday’s results each team will play 2 or 3 matches on Sunday.

During the tournament there will be a competition for the penalty trophy. All the players from each team will take 3 penalties on Saturday. Those players with the highest score within their team are qualified for the 2nd round on Sunday. In the second round there is knock-out system where at the end only 1 player from each team will qualify himself for the big final for the penalty trophy. The final for the penalty trophy will be held just before the final match for the places 1 and 2 in the overall standing. Every year we try to find a professional goalkeeper for the final of the penalty trophy.

There are prizes available for the places 1 up to 10 in the overall standing and there is the penalty trophy to win. Separate from those prizes there are individual awards for the best player and the best keeper. Perhaps the most important price to win is the Fairplay Cup. Although we do understand that winning is important during the tournament, we also feel that entertainment should play an important role. Once again true sportsmanship means you want to win the game but the atmosphere during a tournament is vital as well. For that reason we do organize a number of activities in the evening hours starting on Friday evening and ending on Sunday evening. We are not going to open our cards here but we do promise that there will be lots of entertainment. Especially Saturday evening will be special in 2012, but at this moment we keep that a secret. Don't forget your party outfit and sleep well the nights before you arrive in Kamerik as you will not get much sleep during the weekend!
